The Board is regulated by East Pakistan Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance 1961 (E.P. Ordinance No. XXXIII of 1961) published in the Dhaka Gazette. Extra, part III A, September 21.1961.

Amendments No. XVI of 1962 and No XVII of 1977 published in Bangladesh Gazette dated May 28, 1962 and May 17, 1977 respectively.

Since the Govt. of Bangladesh is the controlling authority of the Board, the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Chittagong is accountable to the Ministry of Education for its overall activities.
